Language Arts

On a daily basis we will focus on several word work (phonics), comprehension, and writing lessons that coincide with the Fundations Journeys and WriteSteps programs. Throughout these lessons we will acquire and strengthen several skills including:

Decoding

Blending

Story structure

Narrative writing

Opinion writing

Character analysis

And much, much more!

 Additionally, children will be involved in guided reading groups. These reading groups will receive a book to share each night in their reading bags. You may see the same book several nights as we continue to boost our reading fluency and automaticity.

Math

Our class follows the GoMath curriculum. There are 12 chapters we will cover. Each chapter will begin a new workbook and students will be able to take their workbooks home to keep after we’ve completed a chapter.

Grading Information

Your child will receive either an M (meeting expectations), P (progressing towards goal), or I (improvement needed) on assignments and report cards. Please see below for district explanations. 

M- Satisfactory academic performance indicating a solid understanding and adequate displays of the skills included in the Pennsylvania Academic Content Standards. This is the accepted grade-level performance.

P-Progressing towards, but not yet reaching, satisfactory performance. Performance indicates a progression towards understanding and adequate display of the skills included in the Pennsylvania Academic Content Standards.

I- Marginal academic performance, work approaching, but not yet reaching, satisfactory performance. Performance indicates a partial understanding and limited display of the skills included in the Pennsylvania Academic Content Standards, and the student may need additional instructional opportunities and/or increased student academic
